Saunas
Our sauna guides compare home saunas using what each maker publishes: specs, prices, warranty, delivery and installation terms. We don't claim to have used saunas we haven't tried, and the prices we quote link back to the seller's own page.
What we compare
- Size and seating. How many people a sauna actually seats, its outside footprint and its height, which matters indoors.
- Heater type and power. Traditional electric, wood-fired or infrared, the heater's power and the electrical circuit the maker says it needs. Many traditional electric heaters need a dedicated 240-volt circuit, and some smaller infrared units plug into a standard outlet; each maker states which.
- Wood, insulation and build. The wood species, wall thickness and insulation, and what that means for upkeep.
- Indoor or outdoor. Barrel and cabin saunas built for outdoors, and what the maker says about the base, roofing and weather protection.
- Warranty. How long the heater and the cabin are covered, and what's excluded.
- Delivery, assembly and returns. Freight delivery, assembly time, the return window and any restocking fee.
If you're pregnant, or have a heart condition or high or low blood pressure, ask your doctor before using a sauna.
New guides are added here as they're researched. Each one lists the downsides as well as the strengths.
